Sir, – Felix Larkin includes a range of Irish-Americans who have appeared on Irish commemorative stamps (An Irishman’s Diary, July 20th).
As a corollary, may I offer a list of Irish-American Sullivans who have been commemorated on US stamps but have been overlooked on Irish stamps: Anne Sullivan (pioneering teacher of the deaf and blind), Ed Sullivan (presenter of America’s most popular entertainment show who gave The Beatles their first big opening in the United States). Maj Gen John Sullivan (a political leader and officer in the American Revolution), Louis Sullivan (giant of American architecture who coined the phrase “form follows function”) and Timothy O’Sullivan (a master of American photography, particularly during the US civil war). – Yours, etc,
