Irish rugby could learn from Croke Park

There are three sharp contrasts between Croke Park and the Aviva Stadium

Sir, – I have attended football games at Croke Park and the Aviva Stadium this year. There are three sharp contrasts between the two venues; one is price. A ticket for the All-Ireland football semi-finals is €60. A category one ticket for the forthcoming South Africa rugby game is €175 plus a purchasing charge.

Alcohol: no alcohol is permitted in the seating area at Croke Park. Viewing at the Aviva is constantly disrupted by people with cartons of alcohol who have more interest in drink than rugby coming in and out.

Noise: constant high-volume prematch music at Aviva makes conversation with companions impossible. Maybe Irish rugby executives will cross the Liffey to discuss with their GAA counterparts how to improve match day offerings. – Yours, etc,
