Sir, – Matt Williams is the latest to tell us that rugby trumps soccer when it comes to teaching our young people about life values (Sports, July 10th).

A familiar trope. Would it not be enough to celebrate a good weekend for rugby without claiming this moral superiority? It is a rather tiresome assertion and is one that just highlights the prejudice and elitism of those who make it. – Yours, etc,
