Sir, – In his letter to local representatives regarding a proposed 500-plus unit development on St Edmundsbury lands adjoining the river Liffey, builder Michael O’Flynn (“O’Flynn calls for Liffey Valley site rezoning” June 11th) suggests “it is incumbent on all of us to take responsibility and play our part in housing our people”.
I would suggest to O’Flynn that Lucan has already played its part in housing thousands of people in areas stretching towards Clondalkin, Celbridge and Palmerstown, with very little supporting infrastructural upgrading. In fact, much of the two SDZs on our doorstep, in Adamstown and Clonburris, are still being developed.
Does he have any idea how impossible it is, especially at peak times, for those of us who already live in Lucan to get a seat on a bus or train serving our existing neighbourhoods? Does he realise many parents have for years found it impossible to secure a creche or school place for their children?
It will be interesting to discover whether local representatives will choose to heed the contents of O’Flynn’s letter or the views of Lucan voters. – Yours, etc,
RM Block
