Ireland must make harder choices on Ukraine

Reader questions neutrality policy and criticises continued alumina exports to Russia

Sir, – How long will it take for this country to develop a moral backbone?

By allowing the export of alumina to Russia we trade Ukrainian lives for Irish job security. And by delegating our air and maritime defence to our “European friends” we reduce the ability of these countries to assist Ukraine in its fight for survival.

We claim to be neutral but in fact we simply look the other way when hard decisions have to be taken. Ireland is part of the problem, not a contributor to the solution. – Yours, etc,
