Sir, – It seems to be much in vogue these days for various persons to claim they are representing the People of Ireland, the Irish People, the Ordinary People of Ireland, or similar formulations.

Speaking as a Person of Ireland, I do not recall nominating anyone other than my local TDs to speak on my behalf. I also seem to recall this being one of the hallmarks of democracy, that the People choose their representation, rather than the reverse. – Yours, etc,
