Sir, – Last weekend Ireland played Syria in a Davis Cup relegation playoff. Your newspaper seems not to have noticed.
It was an exciting if eventually disappointing fixture. Ireland had two match points in the crucial doubles clash on Sunday but failed to clinch them. Syria took a winning lead with victory in the first of the reverse singles.
You wouldn’t know any of this if you were depending on The Irish Times. I realise tennis is a relatively minor sport in Ireland but surely our national team, playing on home soil, merits coverage in the paper of record? – Yours, etc,
