Sir, – Having caught a nasty chest infection on public transport, correspondent Gerry McCann asks “surely there must be a way to protect travellers?” (Letters, December 15th).
There are indeed several. Getting vaccinated against influenza, Covid and pneumococcal infection are excellent steps for those likely to be mixing with large numbers of people.
Also wearing a face mask is worth considering, especially for the more vulnerable among us. It is likely that about a month from now our health system will be under strain.
Prevention of infection, through the choices of individuals, is the best strategy to offset this. – Yours, etc,
