Sir, – Dublin is not being ambitious enough. We are delivering 500-unit apartment blocks at eight or 10 storeys high when these same sites could comfortably accommodate 1,500+ units if we allowed greater height, as seen with one of the rejected 45-storey tower in the Docklands area.
Our planning approach is forcing people into the commuter belt, driving up traffic and daily travel times. Meanwhile, the Docklands, the one place where height makes perfect sense, remains underused, with sporadic towers instead of a coherent high-density district for young professionals to live.
Dublin City Council must radically change its approach.
If we want to tackle the housing crisis, reduce sprawl and keep the city competitive, we must allow taller buildings in key central areas. Dublin cannot keep building out. We need to build up. – Yours, etc,
