The Santa's Kingdom Christmas attraction in Co Kildare is expected to re-open tomorrow after a ceiling collapsed and the building evacuated earlier this afternoon.

Two members of staff were treated for minor injuries after the incident and tonight's event was cancelled. A statement from the event organisers said part of a structure belonging to the Punchestown building had collapsed.

"Two employees suffered minor injuries but at no stage were any members of the public at risk.  As a standard safety measure 'Santa's Kingdom' was evacuated in accordance with the safety plan for the event," the statement said.

"Following a full inspection, which is currently being carried out by safety officers, Santa's Kingdom is expected to re-open tomorrow morning as scheduled at 9.30 a.m. Ticket holders for this evening's shows will be fully refunded or accommodated on an alternative date."

Gardai have warned people not to travel to the event this evening as there is "no admission whatsoever".

The Christmas-themed family event in Punchestown, officially opened its doors in November. The event, which runs until December 23rd, offers a range of attractions to parents and children, including a chocolate factory and a specially-constructed "Snow Zone".
