The British Princess Royal, Princess Anne is to meet the President, Mrs McAleese today, during an honorary visit to Dublin to attend the Cork Dry Gin Sailor of the Year Awards.

The princess is due to arrive at Casement Aerodrome, Baldonnel at 10.40 a.m. before being taken to Áras an Uachtaráin for her first meeting with the President since 2002, when they both attended a rugby match at Lansdowne Road.

The princess is the patron of Scottish Rugby and has frequently attended Ireland v Scotland matches.

Her last official visit to Ireland was in January 1996 when she opened the British Embassy building on Merrion Road, Dublin. She intends to return to the embassy to meet staff later today.

During her visit, Princess Anne will attend a riding demonstration at the Irish Defence Forces Equitation School at McKee Barracks and the Sailor of the Year Awards at the Old Jameson Distillery, Smithfield.

She will also confer an honorary MBE on Ms Julitta Clancy, founder member of the Meath Peace Group.
