Two people have died in separate road incidents in Galway and Leitrim and a man has been left seriously injured after a third crash, also in Galway.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after a woman pedestrian was knocked down and killed in Co Leitrim yesterday.
She was hit by a car shortly after 5pm on the R201 on the outskirts of Mohill village.
She was taken by ambulance to Sligo General Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
This morning, gardaí at Salthill were investigating a single-vehicle crash in which a man in his 60s died.
The collision occured in Barna village at about 5.40am when the car he was driving struck a traffic light. He was removed to University College Hospital Galway for a postmortem.
The road was closed for forensic collision investigators but has now re-opened, a Garda spokeswoman said.
Separately, a 20-year-old man was seriously injured when the car in which he was a passenger hit a ditch on the N66 Loughrea to Gort road at about 4.30am this morning.
He was taken to University College Hospital Galway and his condition is believed to be serious, gardaí said. The driver and a second passenger in the car were uninjured.
Gardaí have asked that anyone with information on any of the three incidents contact them.
