A man in his 20s was killed in a two-car road collision in Co Monaghan this morning, gardaí said.

The man was driving alone in a car which collided with a second vehicle on the N2 at the Carrickmacross junction at about 7am.

Two people in the second car were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda with non-life threatening injuries, gardaí said.

Gardaí have preserved the scene for technical examinations and local diversions are in place.
