Larry McMahon, who has died aged 78, served in the Oireachtas for 22 years as a Fine Gael TD and senator. He was a member of Dublin County Council for over 30 years.
Mr McMahon came to national prominence in 1970 when he was elected as a Fine Gael TD for Dublin South County in a byelection following the resignation of Kevin Boland from the government and the Dáil during the Arms Crisis.
He lost his Dáil seat in the November 1982 election but was elected to the Seanad that year.
Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny extended his sympathy to the family of the late Mr McMahon.
"During his long career as a public representative, Larry McMahon served his constituents with great commitment, both in the Oireachtas and at local authority level."
