Those wishing to make a meaningful contribution to a better environment by changing their lifestyle, particularly at home, will benefit from a new booklet which throws light on everything from composting to water.

It is published by Enfo, the Department of the Environment's information service, and the Irish Energy Centre to coincide with World Environment Day today. It will feature in an awareness campaign called "It's Easy To Make A Difference".

Your Home and the Environment "will go some way towards helping us all make those small changes in lifestyle which can make a positive impact", according to the Minister for the Environment, Mr Dempsey.

In a room-by-room format, the guide outlines environmental tips for energy-saving, notably for the living room, kitchen, bathroom and bedroom, as well as the garage and garden. A total of 10 key steps relate to buying products with less packaging or made from recycled materials, recycling, reducing plastic bag usage, composting waste, saving water/energy and not littering.
