Deery sworn in as new Circuit Court president

Mr Justice Matthew Deery became the new president of the Circuit Court today following a swearing in ceremony in Dublin.

Mr Justice Matthew Deery became the new president of the Circuit Court today following a swearing in ceremony in Dublin.

Mr Justice Deery made a public declaration at the Supreme Court at 10.30am, becoming the administrative head of the country’s 33 Circuit Court Judges. He also becomes an ex-officio member of the High Court.

Mr Justice Deery, from Dundalk, was educated at De La Salle Dundalk, UCD and Kings Inns.

He practised as a barrister since 1972 and was made a judge in 1988. He served on the Special Criminal Court from 1998 until 2003.

He has also been the chairman of the Garda Complaints Appeals Board since 1998.
