Three people have been arrested following the shooting dead of a man in Dublin yesterday.

The 41-year-old victim, named locally as Edward O'Connor from Barn Lodge in Finglas, was shot by a lone gunman on Ballycoolin Road, Finglas, at around 5pm.

A man in his 20s was arrested this morning and is being held at Blanchardstown Garda station in connection with the incident.

Another man in his 20s and a woman in her 30s were arrested last night and detained Finglas Garda. They can be held for up to seven days.

Gardaí believe the dead man was in dispute with a man well-known to him and are working on the theory that this disagreement may have been the motive for the murder.

The victim was taken from the scene by ambulance to James Connolly Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A murder investigation was started immediately.

A postmortem on the dead man’s remains was due to get underway this morning.

The road where the shooting occurred, between the Premier Business Park and Cappagh Road, remains sealed off pending the arrival of the Garda Technical Bureau this morning and traffic delays are expected.

Gardaí were also due to begin examining CCTV footage of access points to and from the road where the fatal attack occurred in an effort to establish how the killer got to and from the scene and if he had assistance.
