Sanjeev Chada charged with murdering his two sons

Accused man appeared before a special sitting of Swinford District court

Sanjeev Chada was tonight charged at a special sitting of Swinford District Court in Co Mayo with the murder of his young sons, Eoghan (10) and Ruairí (5).

The bodies of the two boys were discovered in Mr Chada’s car after it crashed on Monday afternoon.

Det Sgt Gary Walsh of Castlebar Garda station told the court that when he arrested Mr Chada at Westport Garda station at 7.15pm this evening and put the charges to him, he replied “I am so sorry. I really wish I hadn’t done it.”

He has been remanded in custody to appear before Harristown District Court tomorrow.

Mr Chada was arrested just before 12.30pm yesterday immediately on his discharge from Mayo General Hospital where he had been treated for injuries sustained in the crash.

The bodies of the two boys were released for burial yesterday.

The funerals will take place in Ballinkillen near Bagenalstown tomorrow at 1pm.
