Whistleblower Sgt Maurice McCabe has had his full access to the Pulse system restored today.

Interim Garda commissioner Noirín O'Sullivan informed Minister for Justice Frances Fitzgerald last night that following the publication of the Guerin report, Sgt McCabe's access to the Pulse system was being reinstated immediately.

Sgt McCabe’s access to Pulse was restricted in December 2012 after he made serious allegations of corruption and malpractice in the force.

The findings of an investigation carried out barrister Sean Guerin into the claims, published in a report yesterday, vindicated Sgt McCabe.

It is understood Ms Fitzgerald spoke to Ms O’Sullivan yesterday about restoring Sgt McCabe’s access to the Pulse system.

Sources said that while Ms Fitzgerald could not instruct Ms O'Sullivan what to do, as it was an operational matter for An Garda Síochána, she gave a "broad hint" of what she thought.

This evening, a Garda spokesman said Sgt McCabe was last night informed of the decision to restore his access, which was confirmed to him in person today by assistant commissioner for the eastern region Kieran Kenny.
