Well known criminal Martin Foley remains in custody after being arrested on Monday in connection with an incident at a Dublin jewellers.

Foley (64), also known as the Viper, and another man (37) were arrested over a case of alleged false imprisonment at a jeweller’s in the Ilac centre on Dublin city’s northside on Monday afternoon.

The two men are being detained at Store Street Garda station and can be held until about 6.30pm, gardaí said.

Foley, who recently operated a debt collection business, had reportedly been involved in a dispute with the jeweller over an item he left in the premises to be sold.

Foley is a former member of the Martin Cahill gang and has survived numerous attempts on his life. He has convictions for assault, robbery and possession of threatening weapons.
