Gardaí in Dublin are on a high state of alert following a spate of shootings in recent weeks.

David Byrne (34) was shot dead in a high profile gang attack at the Regency Hotel in Drumcondra last Friday week and Eddie Hutch (59) was killed at his home in Ballybough on Monday evening in an apparent retaliation.

Armed detectives and specialist units including the Emergency Response Unit are manning checkpoints in parts of the city to deter any further attacks around the funerals of the men.
