Investigations launched after inmate found in unresponsive state at west Dublin facility

Gardaí and the Irish Prison Service have launched separate investigations after an inmate was found dead in his cell at Cloverhill Prison on Wednesday.

A prison service spokesman confirmed that the prisoner was discovered in an unresponsive state in the early hours of Wednesday morning and said foul play is not suspected in the death at this stage.

The Inspector of Prisons has also been notified of the matter, and will conduct its own investigation in due course.

Details of the deceased man’s identity have not yet been released.
