Gardaí investigating the murder of Andrew Guerrine have arrested a man in connection with the investigation.
The 37-year-old man was apprehended by detectives in the Tallaght area on Tuesday afternoon.
He is currently detained at Clondalkin Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 – Criminal Justice Act 1984.
The remains of Dubliner Andrew Guerrine, a drug-user and dealer, were found in the same gateway on Steelstown Lane, Rathcoole, Co Dublin, where a baby girl was found abandoned almost four weeks ago.
It is believed Mr Guerrine (37), who was in ill health from years of drug abuse, had stolen money from a Dublin crime gang which also feared he may become an informer.
The emergency services were alerted to Mr Guerrine’s death after receiving a 999 call from a member of the public. Gardaí said he was pronounced dead when the emergency services arrived at the scene near Rathcoole close to the N7 and Kildare-Dublin border.
The results of a post-mortem on his remains have not been disclosed for operational reasons, but it is believed his throat was slashed and that he had sustained a number of other serious injuries.
