Judge wants Gallagher tape handed over

A judge has told a legal team to ask gardaí to hand over a video-tape which allegedly shows John Gallagher being harassed by a member of his own family.

Gallagher, who killed mother and daughter Annie and Anne Gillespie in the grounds of Sligo Hospital in 1988, appeared in court yesterday charged with making threats to kill and harassment earlier this month.

Mr Gallagher (46), Grangewood, Strabane, Co Tyrone – but originally from Lifford, Co Donegal – appeared at Strabane Magistrates Court for a brief hearing.

He faces two charges arising out of an incident on May 13th and May 14th this year. One charge is a threat to kill his brother Donal Gallagher while the second charge is harassing this brother over a period of time spanning both days.

The hearing was adjourned until May 30th.

John Gallagher’s solicitor Oliver Roche applied to have bail conditions varied, but the magistrate said he would not rule on this until next week.

Mr Roche also claimed that gardaí had video evidence to show that Donal Gallagher had made a false report of harassment in Lifford against John Gallagher.
