Gardaí investigating the disappearance of two Dublin men last month have discovered bodies at a lake in Co Cavan, believed to be their remains.

The discoveries were made during ongoing searches for Eoin O'Connor (32) and Anthony Keegan (33). They were found on a small island on Lough Sheelin on the Cavan-Meath border yesterday and have yet to be officially identified. The bodies remained at the scene overnight, with the State Pathologist due to arrive this morning.

The men were last seen on April 22nd when they travelled from Dublin to Ballyjamesduff, Co Cavan, for what is understood to have been a prearranged meeting.

They did not return to Dublin prompting family members to raise the alarm.

Information appeal It is understood that the bodies, which were wrapped in sheeting, were discovered by members of a Garda search team at about 4.30pm as part of the ongoing operation.

Gardaí have appealed for anyone with information to come forward, requesting in particular those from the boating community on Lough Sheelin.

Last month, during searches around the lake, a boat was removed by gardaí from a private address. The significance of this remains unclear.

Earlier searches uncovered a grey Ford Focus car, in which the men had travelled, in a car park beside Lough Owel, about 40km south of Lough Sheelin, outside Mullingar.
