Former journalist Ian Bailey spoke yesterday of how it remains a constant source of concern to him that he may be extradited to France over the murder of French film producer Sophie Toscan du Plantier despite winning a Supreme Court appeal against extradition.
Mr Bailey went on RTÉ Radio’s Liveline to speak as a law graduate about the forthcoming property tax, describing it as “a hot topic” on the streets of Skibbereen, Schull and Ballydehob, with people frequently approaching him and asking him for advice.
Mr Bailey (56) has always denied any involvement in the death of Ms Toscan du Plantier (39) at her holiday home near Schull in 1996.
Mr Bailey said various spokesmen for the French authorities had stated that they planned to try him in his absence.
“I suspect that if they did that then I expect that they would then seek my extradition under a new warrant and I would probably have to go through that whole proceedings again . . .
“It’s constantly there as a concern.”
