Sotheby’s, London. Rare travel books relating to the polar explorers. Described as “the first book printed in the Antarctic”, Ernest Shackleton’s Aurora Australis sold for £122,500 (estimated at £50,000-£70,000) – an auction record for this book, “one of the most celebrated travel books ever written”.

The Heart of the Antarctic by Ernest Shackleton, published in London in 1909, which is signed by the author and "all of the shore party" and is "an account of the British Antarctic Expedition 1907-1909" sold for £50,000 (estimated at £10,000- £15,000). Lion Heart Autographs, New York. Auction of Titanic memorabilia. A menu for the last lunch served aboard Titanic sold for $88,000 ($50,000-$70,000); a ticket for the weighing chair located in the Turkish Baths on the Titanic (one of only four known) sold for $11,000 ($7,500-$10,000).

Woolley & Wallis Auctioneers, Salisbury, Wiltshire, England. A ceremonial shillelagh presented to Ernest Bevin (British trade union leader) by Irish supporters in 1934, failed to sell when bidding stalled at £460 (£500-£700).
