Castlebar now has its own Greenway to compete with Westport's Great Western Greenway to Achill. The new eight kilometre route along the Castlebar River to the National Museum of Country Life at Turlough is as much a delight as its longer sibling, varying from broad green fields to Arcadian stretches along wooded riverbanks. It's the perfect preparation for an encounter with the museum (Ireland's only national museum outside of Dublin) – devoted to our rural lives between 1850 and 1950: a world nostalgic to some and a mystery to others.
