With the colder months now upon us, our hands can give us away quickly. The combination of being exposed to the cold outdoors and the heat indoors can leave our hands looking chapped and feeling dry. It is best to be proactive by implementing habits such as wearing gloves when you go outside and when you are washing the dishes.

Leaving an open bottle or a small bowl of water by radiators will work to keep some moisture in the air indoors.

You should keep a good hand cream on your desk, in your handbag and by the sink. Voya, a company that harvests seaweed from the shores of the Atlantic, produces a hand lotion, Handy to Have (€17), that combines the moisturising properties of seaweed with the restorative properties of vitamin E, and is the perfect size for your handbag.

The Handmade Soap Company in Co Meath has a lovely selection of natural hand lotions (€14.95). My personal favourite is the Lemongrass and Cedarwood, which not only moisturises but smells beautiful.

The Burren Perfumery Organic Light Lavender Hand Lotion (€15) is a lovely blend of sweet almond oil and lavender essential oil. This would work well as a luxurious overnight hand cream, as the lavender sooths both your hands and your mind.
