Concert promoter MCD has been granted licences by Dublin City Council to hold three concerts in the Phoenix Park next week, despite objections from local residents.

Residents had objected to the concerts due to the violence following the Swedish House Mafia gig at the same venue last summer.

Six people were stabbed and 40 were treated in emergency departments following the concert. There were more than 30 arrests for knife attacks, public order offences, drug possession and drug dealing. Two men who attended the concert died afterwards from suspected overdoses.

The licences for the concerts which will be held on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday of next week are subject to 14 conditions. The conditions include security and Garda operations plans and a waste and litter management plan for the concert site, the rest of the park and the residential areas surrounding the Phoenix Park.

A resident hotline will be provided from 9am to midnight on the day of each concert, temporary portable toilet facilities will be provided outside the concert site and a traffic management plan will be put in place on the days of each concert.

The artists playing next week, Justin Timberlake, The Killers and Mumford & Sons, are likely to appeal to a more mature demographic.
