There's a lot to be said about not overstaying your welcome. Half an hour in the company of these pop dreamers gives you eight bright-as-a-button tracks and a debut album full of sunny, infectious, sassy, feel-good hooks, melodies and choruses. You wouldn't expect anything less than such gleeful fare from a band named after a sleepy California beach town and, indeed, their debt to the beach bums who surfed this way before is obvious. Yet for all those hazy Beach Boys nods, Cayucas have other irons in the campfire. There's a beautiful shimmy to the album, with producer Richard Swift bringing out the colour in the band's sultry sound and especially in frontman Zac Yudin's widescreen pop daydreams. As

swoon and soar away, the right thing, nay only thing, to do is join them for the trip.
