You won't find much information "out there" on Louth-based composer Breifne Holohan, a graduate of Dundalk Institute of Technology who clearly prefers the anonymity of a serious musician to moderate recognition of a performer, but then as one of his influences, Brian Eno, recently inferred, fans can be nuisances. This noted, Holohan's debut album is a substantial magnet for those who love the calm of modern classical composers such as Nils Frahm. The son of Aosdána member Michael Holohan, Holohan's debut album is a quality, seemingly effortless exercise in control and release, and its four tracks (Escape, Study for Sirens, Les Cloches Artificielles, the title track) escape sonic restraints in ways that are inventive and compositionally articulate.
