The Jaxx are back. It may be a couple of years since Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe had an album out, but you could discern their shadows in the recent craze for house-led pop fare. Thanks to acts such as Rudimental and Disclosure, Junto couldn't arrive at a better time, and Basement Jaxx have freshened up their signature sound. Power to the People and Rock This Road are chockablock with samba prowess, while What's the News and Unicorn are sleekly powered thrillers. Against this, Junto lacks the kind of killer tunes to kick out the jams in the fashion of the band's carnivalesque live shows (strangely, earlier non-album single Back 2 the Wild is missing in action). All in all, it's an album with some bounce and sufficient shimmy. basementjaxx.com Download: Power to the People, Unicorn See interview, p6-7
