Poem of the Week: Us

A new work by Pádraig J Daly

Georges Lemaître, the Belgian Catholic priest who first put forward the idea of what came to be known as the Big Bang
Georges Lemaître, the Belgian Catholic priest who first put forward the idea of what came to be known as the Big Bang

Centuries of centuries on from Lemaitre’s Bang,
Through scatterings and gatherings,
Glacier, fire and gas,

Some slippery thing crawled onto land;
And, through twists and failures, became us,
Set in this glowing place beneath the sun.

Pádraig J Daly’s most recent collection is Us Is from This Glowing Place: New and Selected Poems (Scotus Press)
