Tech workers from companies including Airbnb, Datalex, Hostelworld, CarTrawler, Fleetmatics and Zalando will go head-to-head this week to raise money for Temple Street Children’s University Hospital.
More than 160 teams will battle it out on a tech treasure trail, where they will face questions, clues and activities utilising digital media platforms. The winning team will be crowned the “Smartest Techies” at the post-event party.
Real-time analytics company Corvil, who tackled a series of Twitter challenges including selfies with live animals and Riverdancing, won last year’s event.
Corvil team leader Emma Gallo said: "We are now looking forward to this year, to another day of fun challenges, defending our title and contributing to Temple Street."
More than 700 members of the tech community, from companies including LinkedIn, Airbnb, Intel, Microsoft and Riot Games, took part in the inaugural event last year. They busked, hoola-hooped and sang their way around Dublin city centre, raising more than €150,000 in much-needed funds for Temple Street Children’s Hospital.
Support
This year, funds raised will go to support the construction of Temple Street’s new neurology and renal outpatients unit. The new unit will directly benefit more than 6,000 sick children who attend Temple Street every year.
"Techies 4 Temple Street is more than just a fantastic team day out; it's also a great opportunity to network with your peers in the tech community while doing something wonderful for sick children in Temple Street," Temple Street Foundation chief executive Denise Fitzgerald said.
The event is the creation of Hostelworld cofounder and Homestay Founder Tom Kennedy.
He said the event is about mobilising the wider tech industry as a whole to support Temple Street.
