Element Six is set to embark on significant infrastructure programmes over the next three years at its Shannon operations that are intended to pave the way for the company's future in Ireland.

The company, which is celebrating 60 years in Ireland, develops and manufactures synthetic diamond super-materials for the oil and gas, automotive and aerospace, and mining and construction industries. It is part of the De Beers Group.

Element Six has invested €16 million in the Shannon site since 2017, creating 100 jobs and bringing the total number of people employed to more than 500.

It has not disclosed how much the planned infrastructure programmes will cost.

“We are thrilled to celebrate this significant milestone - a diamond anniversary, fittingly - with our local and global teams. This is an opportunity to remember the past we built our foundations upon, but also – crucially – to remain focussed on the road yet to come, our journey into a modern future where sustainability and digital transformation will not be finite projects to complete, but rather states of perpetual agility, enabling us to dynamically adapt to new market trends and customers’ needs,” said Walter Hühn, chief executive at Element Six.

“With that in mind, today marks not only six decades of fostering talent, manufacturing excellence and diamond innovation in Shannon, but also building and nurturing a community that is at the heart of what we do, underpinned by the same values we upheld 60 years ago. Those values are embedded in the DNA of our company and its people, and will continue to be the driving force in ensuring a prosperous future for Element Six.”

The milestone was welcomed by IDA Ireland's executive director, Mary Buckley. "Their commitment to the Mid-West Region has been unwavering and is testament to their excellent team, who have greatly contributed to this significant milestone," she said.
