Irish technology group SL Controls will merge this month with Danish IT multinational NNIT which acquired the business over three years ago in a €17 million deal.

The deal, which was sealed in July 2021, included an upfront payment of €12.7 million, with a €4.2 million earn-out element.

Established in 2002, SL Controls provide equipment system integrated solutions to companies in a range of industries, including medtech, pharma, healthcare and technology.

NNIT is a provider of IT solutions to life sciences internationally, and to the public and private sectors in Denmark. The company and its subsidiaries employ more than 1,700 people in Europe, Asia, and USA.

SL Controls said on Monday it is to merge with NNIT as Ireland “takes on the role of the global smart factory” base for the Danish group.

Smart factories are manufacturing facilities that use advanced and interconnected technologies such as artificial intelligence to analyse data, drive automated processes, and learn as they go.

Former SL Controls chief executive Keith Moran will head up NNIT’s smart factory and supply chain solutions, while the former senior leadership team from SL Controls will assume responsibility for NNIT’s smart factory operations.

All former staff and management from SL Controls in both Ireland and the US will remain in place.

The former SL Controls operations will be part of NNIT’s smart factory solutions, with 150 employees in Ireland and across NNIT’s other locations worldwide.

NNIT said it will be working with the life sciences sector internationally to modernise manufacturing processes based on smart factory principles to ensure clients have “constant access” to accurate and reliable manufacturing data from every corner of their factories.

Headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark, the NNIT Group also has locations in Germany, Switzerland, Poland, Czech Republic, UK, China, Philippines, Singapore, and the US.

“SL Controls will be NNIT by January 2025, and we will be fully integrated into the NNIT Group,” said Mr Moran. “This ongoing evolution of the company brings with it many benefits and opportunities for clients as we widen our network.

“It is an excellent progression for the company and for all the people working in it. We are delighted to be fully integrating with a company that shares our vision of excellence in service delivery in the life sciences industry.

“It also gives our team wider career options both in Ireland and across Europe and will give them access to work on major global projects.”
