Top try scorer Fionn Carr says he has no regrets about leaving Connacht two years ago to join his native Leinster.

But the 27-year old is hoping that he can rediscover the form which made him Connacht’s all-time record try scorer during his three seasons at the Sportsground.

Carr ran in 34 tries in 73 appearances for Connacht but managed just eight in 34 games on his return to Leinster. He also missed out on playing Heineken Cup rugby with Connacht.

Carr said yesterday that he hopes to play his part this season as Connacht battle it out with Toulouse, Saracens and Zebre, with both of his Heineken Cup appearances so far coming off the bench with Leinster.

“I was happy to go and give Leinster a shot and I enjoyed my time there. But it was right for me to come back to Connacht as well.

“I didn’t find it too difficult to settle back in. I know a lot of the lads here and a lot of the younger guys when I left are now starting so I got back in fairly quickly.”

Carr has not given up hope of making it into the Irish team and believes a good run of form will not go unnoticed by his former Leinster coach Joe Schmidt.

“Joe seems to be pretty fair and square so if you are doing what he wants you to do then you are in with a great chance.”
