Remembering Des O’Malley

Sir, – I doubt that there is anyone in the country who could say a bad word about the late, great Des O’Malley. How badly we miss politicians of his calibre and fearlessness today. He stood his ground when his honesty and integrity were questioned by those who cared less for the people of Ireland and more for those who wanted to disunite the nation through armed conflict.

Despite fearing for his own life and that of his family, O’Malley ploughed an often lonesome furrow, knowing well his life was in danger. He knew that enemies of the State had the ear of some in his own party. The clear threat to democracy on the island of Ireland brought out the best in this truly remarkable man. He will be missed when others are long forgotten. – Yours, etc,

NIALL GINTY,

Killester,
