GARDAÍ IN Cork have appealed for assistance in their investigation into a crash that claimed the life of a woman moped driver in the city late on Monday.

The woman, who was named locally as Amanda Carroll (25) from Pearse Road in Ballyphehane, was fatally injured when her moped was in collision with a car on Sarsfield Road near Wilton at about 11.30pm.

Ms Carroll was taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival. The driver of the car, a woman in her late teens, and a number of passengers were uninjured but were treated for shock.

Gardaí closed the road to allow a forensic crash investigator to examine the scene.

They also began examining CCTV footage from a Bus Éireann bus which had stopped to drop off passengers near where the collision occurred.

Gardaí have appealed to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has any information that can assist them to contact them at Togher Garda station on 021-4947120.
