The line-up of bands to play at the Dublin anti-poverty rally this week, has been annouced.
The Make Poverty History Irish Campaign said the Hothouse Flowers, The Devlins, The Walls and Alpha States, have agreed to take part in the event on Thursday evening.
The rally is part of the global anti-poverty campaign spearheaded by Bob Geldof and Bono and which culminates in eight concerts around the world next Saturday.
Concerts will take place in London, Paris, Berlin, rome, Philadelphia, Cananda, tokyo and Johannesburg. A rally in Edinburgh, Scotland is expected to attract up to 100,000 people ahead of the G8 summit of the world's most powerful leaders in Gleneagles Hotel 40 miles north west of Edinburgh starting on July 6th.
Thursday's rally in Dublin will commence in Parnell Square at 6.30pm will move to Merrion Square through O’Connell Street, D’Olier Street, Nassau Street, Kildare Street and St Stephens Green.
Rebecca Emery, Oxfam Ireland and band co-ordinator of the Make Poverty History Irish Campaign said today: "We are so grateful that so many of our top bands are supporting the campaign by playing for free in Merrion Square.
"There will be a great buzz at this important event, which affords people an opportunity make a statement about world poverty and also enjoy themselves"
