Plastic wrappers a threat to marine life

Sir, – On a recent visit to France, I noticed that the butchers, cheesemongers and greengrocers there are mostly using waxed paper to wrap their produce. In light of the damage that plastic seems to be doing to our sea life in the oceans, is it not time that we started to use biodegradable materials?

Waxed paper is also a much better way to store food than a plastic bag.

Can it be that much more expensive to be protective of our wildlife? It’s a problem for the entire world. Let us play our part. – Yours, etc,

SHEILA DEEGAN,

Sir, – I do enjoy the festive season but it does remind me of just how much rubbish we produce in the form of packaging. – Yours, etc,
