The Irish Times Abroad wants to hear the stories and experiences of Irish people who are living in other countries.

Do you have something interesting to tell us about your experience or your perspective as an Irish person abroad? Or do you have a new angle on Irish citizens living in other countries you think we should cover?

Send us your outline for a piece using the form below or email it to abroad@IrishTimes.com. We do not consider pieces which have been modified or generated using AI. You are also welcome to submit a standalone piece (500-800 words) to abroad@IrishTimes.com.

If you’re not comfortable with writing (or are too busy), but have a good story you would like to tell, send us your idea. If your story works for us, one of our journalists may arrange an interview.

If you have simply seen something of interest for Irish readers abroad, drop us an email.

We want to hear an Irish perspective on current events where you are living in the world, or on Irish affairs from afar, whether you have been living abroad one year or 40 years.

We would also like to learn about your daily lived experience: What are the highs and lows? How is work and family life different? How does it compare to Ireland? What do you miss?

Also keep an eye out on our social media for short submission calls on particular topics over the coming months. You can follow Irish Times Abroad on Instagram; Facebook and Twitter.

You can sign up for our monthly newsletter and join our network here. You can read previous submissions from readers on our Abroad page.

Guidelines:

  • When pitching your idea, tell us what it will say in three or four points, why it’s likely to interest readers and a bit about who you are.
  • Standalone pieces should be between 500 and 800 words, with a photograph where possible. If you’ve an idea for a short video or are open to taking video, let us know
  • Please note: We do not consider pieces for publication that have been modified or generated using AI.
  • Please include your phone number. It is our practice to verify the identity of first-time contributors (we will respect time zone differences). If you have a professional profile or LinkedIn account, please include it in your submission to facilitate verification.

What is Irish Times Abroad?

With an estimated one in six Irish-born people living outside the country, Ireland has one of the biggest diasporas per capita in the world. The objective of the Abroad project is to keep Irish people connected with The Irish Times no matter where they are in the world, by providing them with a special editorial service tailored to their interests, keeping them engaged with Irish affairs, with each other, and with Irishtimes.com.

Here, readers can find first-person stories of life overseas, news, business, sports, opinion, culture and lifestyle content of special interest to the Irish diaspora, information on working abroad opportunities, and advice about moving back home.
