The final decision on whether to sell Ennis's Cusack Park for redevelopment has been put back until the new year. Tuesday night's meeting of the county board was to hear from the specialist committee appointed to examine the options open to the Clare GAA but because of the complexity of the submissions, further time was allowed for their consideration.

It was also confirmed there are 10 developers interested in acquiring the venue, which is in the town centre.

There is an emerging consensus that recommendation of the committee will be to agree the deal and move out of the old ground.

According to a direction on the matter issued previously by the county board, the deal will not be done for cash but rather in return for the development of new facilities for Clare. Principally this would entail the provision of a state-of-the-art 40,000-capacity stadium with training pitch, floodlights and car park.

It has also been stipulated any successful developer would have to hand over the completed stadium, most of the proposed sites for which are within a mile of the current ground, before getting the keys to the old Cusack Park.

The other development likely to be part of any deal is a 72-acre site, acquired by the county board for the purposes of building a training facility of six or seven pitches, all-weather surfaces and gymnasium.

Planning permission has already been obtained for this project.
