This week, six wines from the SuperValu Christmas range. Most are from France – perhaps we like to be traditional at Christmas – but there is something to suit all tastes here.

Aresti Trisquel Gran Reserva Sauvignon Blanc 2021, Leyda Valley, €10.70 (down from €15.99)
A shortage of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc may be looming, but Chile can certainly make up the shortfall with wines such as this. Fresh, aromatic and bracing with juicy, racy apple, kiwi and citrus fruits, this would go with most shellfish and white-fish dishes. Give it a try with a bowl of herby mussels.

Pouilly-Fuissé André Goichot Les Feuilles d'Or 2020, €15 (down from €22.99)
A medium-bodied Chardonnay with ample peach and red-apple fruits cut through with a lemon acidity. Try this with prawns, salmon and crab dishes.

Provence Rosé Bendel, €10 (down from €14.99)
A fresh, crisp, dry rosé with redcurrant and red-cherry fruits. A nice aperitif, although it would also go well with lightly spicy shellfish.

Fleurie André Goichot 2019, €10 (down from €14.99)
Fleurie is the best-known of the Beaujolais crus, or villages, and it is rare to find it at this price. This is an attractive, supple, fruit-filled wine with no rough edges. Perfect on its own or with salmon, charcuterie or white meats – including turkey.

Nugan Estate McLaren Vale, McLaren Parish Shiraz 2018, €10.70 (down from €15.99)
This is classic Aussie Shiraz with masses of rich, ripe plum fruits, overlaid with dark chocolate and vanilla spice. Warming and smooth, this would go nicely with winter casseroles and roast red meats. Shiraz also makes a great match for Christmas turkey.

Lady de Mour 2018, Margaux, €25 (down from €39.99)
A refined Bordeaux with a lovely fragrance, elegant blackcurrant fruits and light tannins on the finish. Perfect with a roast of lamb or beef.
