A planned strike tomorrow by staff at South Dublin County Council has been averted following talks at the Labour Relations Commission.

Members of the trade union Impact, who have been engaging in industrial action in recent weeks and had planned to take strike action as part of a dispute over a decision by the local authority to withdraw acting-up and project allowances paid to staff for performing additional duties.

An earlier one-day strike by Impact members over the same issues last month led to the closure of a wide range of services operated by the council.

Impact said it had accepted proposals drawn up by the Labour Relations Commission. Its national secretary Peter Nolan said it was satisfied its objectives had been realised.
