US medical technology firm Zeltiq Aesthetics is to create 60 jobs in Galway over the next 18 months, the company said on Wednesday.

Zeltiq, which is headquartered in Pleasanton, California, is establishing a European manufacturing facility in Galway.

The project is supported by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation through IDA Ireland.

Zeltiq has developed a proprietary controlled-cooling technology platform that reduces the temperature of fat cells through a process known as apoptosis. The company’s first commercial product, the CoolSculpting system, is designed to reduce unwanted fat that doe not respond to diet or exercise. The product is available in 70 countries.
