Picture the scene: the rugged beauty of the Causeway coast fills TV screens around the globe, as the camera pans to capture the 2025 Champion Golfer of the Year being presented with the Claret Jug on the 18th green of Royal Portrush Golf Club.

This image will become an iconic sporting moment etched forever in the history books of golf’s original major.

For its part, Royal Portrush is now firmly on The R&A’s rotation for The Open and Northern Ireland’s reputation as a leading golf destination is cemented forever.

As well as being home to two of the top 10 ranked courses internationally – Royal County Down and Royal Portrush – Northern Ireland has a rich golfing history and more than 90 spectacular easily accessible courses for visitors to choose from.

But, whether you’re here for The 153rd Open, or simply seeking a short break this summer, the message from Tourism Northern Ireland is clear – come for the golf but stay for the adventure.

With world-class courses to play, iconic attractions to visit and incredible food and drink to indulge in, you’re only ever one small step from a giant adventure in Northern Ireland.

Causeway Coast

If you’re one of the lucky ones to be staying on the Causeway coast during The 153rd Open, then you’re about to find out there is so much more to this part of Northern Ireland than one of the world’s greatest golf courses.

The town of Portrush itself is putting on a family-friendly party during the week of The Open. Every day there will be an exciting line-up of free live music acts, interactive golf games and even a Golf in Portrush exhibition that traces the town’s rich sporting heritage.

The action takes place each day at Kerr Street Green but the whole seaside town is buzzing and with great bars, restaurants and family-owned businesses just a short pitching wedge from the course – it is the perfect location to soak up the atmosphere.

Speaking of great restaurants, Lir Seafood in Coleraine prides itself on using only the finest seasonal produce to accompany their sustainably sourced seafood.

In Portstewart, Harry’s Shack has one of the most enviable locations on the Causeway coast. Situated right on the sands of Portstewart strand, the restaurant has a reputation for great dining experiences that combine the finest locally sourced ingredients with a relaxed beachside atmosphere.

The Causeway Coastal Route is one of the world’s most scenic drives and home to three of the jewels in Northern Ireland’s crown. Explore the iconic Giant’s Causeway, share the perfect Instagram story from Carrick-A-Rede Rope Bridge or explore the ruins of the majestic Dunluce Castle. These attractions are worth the trip alone.

Whiterocks Beach, the stunning backdrop to the world-famous Calamity Corner (Royal Portrush’s 16th hole) with its golden sands and rolling dunes is just one of the many Blue Flag beaches that hug this coastline. If the walk along the beach has given you a thirst, then make sure you head to the world’s oldest licensed distillery at Bushmills for some uisce beatha (water of life).
