Care isn’t always loud. It’s quiet and it’s happening in every corner of our communities. That’s the view of Comfort Keepers, one of Ireland’s largest and most awarded homecare providers. The company’s chief executive, Collette Gleeson, says: “The care that Comfort Keepers provides is keeping communities together. It’s prioritising connection and purpose, and joy as much as it is about providing daily care tasks that help people to live a fulfilled life. The impact of our home care and support services on people around the country is profound.

“It only happens when we collaborate and communicate – we can’t deliver to the standard that people deserve if we don’t work as a team. Communication is so critical to care and people’s health, whether that’s working within Comfort Keepers or with all the supports and family members that people might have. It’s an intrinsic element in getting care right for people.”

And the company has much to communicate as it celebrates 20 years of uplifting homecare and proudly supporting individuals and families to stay safe, well, and cared for at home. Its care teams have brought care, compassion and joy to every corner of Ireland for over two decades.

Established in 2005, Comfort Keepers has grown to nearly 2,000 employees and has become a trusted name in Irish home care. It is a HSE-preferred homecare provider, with 15 locations across the country, providing nationwide support services overseen by its clinical nurse management team. With dignity and care at the heart of everything it does, Comfort Keepers provides a wide range of services such as personal care and companionship, aged care support, disability support, Dementia and Alzheimer’s care, respite care, palliative support, complex care including acquired brain injury and long-term/chronic illness, overnight and 24- hour care, and light homemaking/housekeeping support.

Bringing joy home

Comfort Keepers recently marked its 20 years of providing person-centred care in communities on its annual National Day of Joy, on June 25th. It’s a special day in the calendar to celebrate all the simple, everyday moments that lift spirits and bring people closer together. The National Day of Joy is also an opportunity to highlight that homecare matters and is a vital part of our health ecosystem, providing community-based support, connection, dignity and joy to those who receive home care.

“What our teams do is much more than daily support. Each of our carers brings care, joy and connection into their clients’ homes every day, while helping them to stay independent, confident, and part of the communities they love. This is why this annual celebration is such an important opportunity for us to honour the incredibly hardworking and passionate members of our teams,” says Gleeson.

On June 25th, its teams made community visits, delivered flowers and celebration packs to clients, and celebrated in Comfort Keepers’s offices and in the homes of those they care for across Ireland. They also acknowledged, for the second consecutive year, being named All-Ireland Champion Home Care Company 2025 by the All-Ireland Business Foundation, recognising Comfort Keepers’ ongoing commitment to excellent, reliable and compassionate homecare services that empower clients to maintain their independence and dignity.

Celebrating outstanding care

Comfort Keepers also took the opportunity on its National Day of Joy to celebrate its teams who work together to bring joy into people’s homes every day. It gave out special awards and long-service awards, as well as announcing the national winner of its Carer of the Year 2025 Awards, chosen from 10 regional winners from around the country.

Gleeson says: “Every organisation says that their people are really important. We don’t just believe this, we live and breathe it, and our carer of the year is our moment to recognise the dedication, the quiet kindness, and hard work of our care teams and our carers across the country. I always feel quite humbled when I meet the carer of the year nominees and regional winners, and this is because they represent the best of Comfort Keepers – they show up with kindness, trust and integrity every day. No matter what’s going on in their lives, they put their clients’ care and needs first.”

This year, Mary Brennan was crowned Comfort Keepers National Carer of the Year 2025. Based in Dunleer, Co Louth, Brennan has been a carer for 13 years, which began when she cared for her mother during a serious illness. Today, Brennan continues to bring humour, empathy and professionalism to every client she supports.

“I am honoured to receive this recognition for helping my clients to live in the comfort of their home and for being able to boost their independence, especially after hospital stays,” she says.

“We have a big impact on our clients’ lives. For example, when they come home from the hospital, they’re vulnerable and they need the help that we can give them. But you can see them flourishing in their own homes and coming into their environment again and becoming stronger and confident – I love being part of my clients’ journey to healing.

“I am also thankful for all my wonderful colleagues who provide constant support. I love working for Comfort Keepers because it is so supportive, and they’ve introduced me to so many clients that I absolutely love, and a great team of carers.”

Gleeson adds, “Mary loves her job and her clients, has great patience and a high level of professionalism. She is a fabulous ambassador for Comfort Keepers and a very deserving national carer of the year 2025 winner.”
