Republic of Ireland’s 5-1 World Cup playoff defeat to Denmark has seen them drop six places to 32nd in the Fifa world rankings.
Ireland, who failed to qualify for next summer’s tournament in Russia following last week’s defeat, are now in a tie in the rankings table with Scotland. The Scots failed to progress from either their World Cup qualifying group, or their Euro 2016 qualifying group (which included Ireland) prior to that.
Northern Ireland drop one place following their controversial playoff defeat to Switzerland, they are now eight places ahead of the Republic in 24th
Wales, who Martin O’Neill’s team beat to a World Cup playoff spot, drop five places to 19th. They are four places ahead of England who drop from 12th to 15th.
Denmark are up to 12th following that impressive win over Ireland. Reigning World Cup champions Germany continue to top the rankings, European champions Portugal are in third with a resurgent Brazil between them in second.
